Ursuline Academy Fondly Remembers
Mrs. Martha McCann

On August 14th, 2004, Ursuline Academy lost one of its finest teachers. Mrs. Martha McCann succumbed to cancer after a very long but very courageous battle. Mrs. McCann taught English to juniors and junior high Religion. Ask any student and they will tell you that Mrs. McCann's friendly smile and warm heart made their classes with her that much more special. Her profound wisdom and caring personality made every Ursuline girl fell like Martha was their mother. Ursuline lost not only a great teacher, but a tremendous friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the McCann family during this difficult time. Martha, we will always remember you.

Martha McCann and her daughter,
Laura McCann '02

"I will miss your smile and upbeat personality. I will miss your voice of reason and the sincerity and thought you put into each sentence. God must be in need of a very special angel."

"Your words have always made me calm. Your presence always brings me peace. Your valuable insight always gives me guidance. I cherish all the times we've spent together."

" Besides teaching me about Hamlet and writing term papers, you taught me many life lessons. The first and most evident to anyone who has met you is the importance of kindness."

"I want to thank you for being a friend, a teacher, a mentor, and like a second mother to me over all the years I have known you. you have always been one of the most caring, joyful, and selfless people I know and it showed especially in your dedication to Ursuline and us students."

" You have done so much for me: not only single-handedly getting me into college, but also being my mentor, my teacher, my friend. No other teacher has ever or will ever have such a great impact on my life."

" Thank you for fostering my love for Emily Dickinson. Thank you for those peaceful morning classes. Thank you for the first A paper I ever wrote. Thank you for encouraging me to write - you were the first teacher that ever really "believed" in me."
