The Student Perspective

Cassandra, Grade 7, speaks to prospective students about the many reasons she decided to join Ursuline Academy's Class of 2015, and what makes her school "better" than the rest!

Caroline, Grade 10

"I am deeply thankful to my dedicated coaches and teammates who recognized a talent I did not even know I had, and encouraged me to achieve beyond what I ever thought was possible.  This commitment to the development of each student’s individual talents is what makes Ursuline such a special place.  In every classroom, at every athletic event, in the arts and in service projects, Ursuline students like me are challenged to become the women they are called to be.  I am so happy to be part of a small community where teachers and students know each other and care about each other.  Most of all, I appreciate the opportunities I have each day to grow in faith and to learn to use my unique talents to serve others."

Katie, Grade 12

"My Ursuline Academy education has benefited me not only as a student, but also as a young woman. It has given me the confidence to achieve whatever I set my mind to, from figuring out logarithms in Pre-Calculus to improving my drive in field hockey. I believe that in challenging its students with strong academics, Ursuline fosters an incredible sense of self-confidence and independence, one of the greatest gifts that my Ursuline education has provided me. Ursuline’s excellent faculty and staff cultivate this confidence by desiring success for each one of their students. I have found that when my teachers genuinely believe in me, I cannot help but believe in myself."

Hannah, Grade 10

"When time came for me to make the choice to stay in public school or to apply to private school, it wasn’t an easy choice for me.  I didn’t want to leave my friends and leave behind everything that I knew.  I decided to apply to Ursuline Academy and I was accepted.  My experience here is beyond what I expected.  I have support from everyone around that gives me more confidence.  The friends I made are welcoming and encouraging.  My study habits have grown stronger and I feel more confident.  Teachers give students more independence and I feel more prepared for tests, quizzes, essays and class discussions."

Lexi, Grade 12

"Coming from a small school, Ursuline gave me the opportunity to open many hidden doors and discover interests in realms way beyond my wildest dreams. Before Ursuline, I was a dancer; I now play field hockey and ice hockey, two highly aggressive contact sports. In elementary school, I was once elected to student council; I now serve as President of the Student Body.  I was always convinced that if anyone let me run tech during a dramatic production, I would completely ruin the set; I can now say that I have successfully served as one of the stage managers for multiple performances.

I can honestly state that Ursuline has made my peers and me the people we are today. I don’t know how they did it. I can’t explicitly tell you when it happened. All I know is that whatever the magic secret is has caused sixty-two uncertain twelve-year-olds to become sixty-two mature, confident young women, who will serve as the leaders of tomorrow. I know that upon my graduation, I will be able to look back and thank Ursuline for its gifts, thank it for the opportunities, and most importantly, thank it for the memories. I had nothing to lose from attending Ursuline, and everything to gain."

"Ursuline Academy has dramatically changed me. I have become simply more: more willing to learn, more willing to lead, more faithful, more curious, more independant. In short, more ready for life."
