Ursuline Academy’s varsity volleyball team wrapped up its season by winning the Metro Boston League Championship with a 3-0 victory over Calvary Chapel of Rockland on Friday, April 16. The championship win capped off the team’s undefeated season (delayed from the fall due to COVID-19), ending with a 12-0 record, and a winning streak of 36 straight sets. Coaches Kevin Goyette and his daughter Julia Goyette ‘14 ably led Ursuline to victory despite the challenge of having to coach the playoff games virtually, with the on-site help of Ursuline staffers Ms. Natalie Mayo and Ms. Heather Smart.
Assistant Coach Julia Goyette had high praise for the players and the program during this unique year. "Through wellness protocol, mask enforcement, social distancing, and accountability by all, we were able to roster 29 athletes on the varsity and junior varsity squads and train all remaining players in a clinic. Despite the varying opponents, modifications in match protocol, and the change of season, both the varsity and junior varsity teams finished undefeated. These athletes improved tremendously and continued setting the standard for the program every day."
