Ursuline Gala History
For the first eleven years, the Ursuline gala was celebrated as the "Brescia Ball." In 2019, we rebranded our event as "An Evening for Ursuline" and continued our annual tradition with a joyful community event on campus in the Reynolds Center. In 2020 and again in 2021, the challenges of the pandemic led us to host two consecutive virtual galas, themed as "Ursuline's Got Talent." Although the venue and format has changed over the years, each event inspires us and reminds us how lucky we are to have such a supportive community. We gratefully acknowledge the past gala honorees for their dedication to the motto of Serviam and Ursuline Academy’s mission, and remember the success of our past events.

An Evening for Ursuline - Celebrating 75 Years
We were thrilled to host our annual gala, “An Evening for Ursuline - Celebrating 75 Years,” on Friday, November 18, 2022. All proceeds supported the scholarship program at Ursuline to provide both need and merit-based financial assistance to deserving young women. At the gala, we were pleased to present the Spirit of St. Angela Award to alumnae who are committed to the Ursuline tradition of Serviam. We honor alumnae whose life and work demonstrate a strong integration of the Ursuline mission with the courage, kindness, and humility of Saint Angela.

Denim and Diamonds
Celebrating Strong Young Women
with Hearts that Shine!
Honorees: Ursuline's students - the diamonds in our midst!
For the first time in its twelve-year history, the Brescia Ball was held on the Ursuline campus in the Reynolds Family Athletic & Convocation Center. The theme of Denim and Diamonds lent itself to a more casual yet elegant atmosphere than past Brescia Balls, and placed the spotlight squarely on Ursuline students, who sparkled as they provided vocal entertainment for the guests, and whose educational experience benefited from the proceeds earned.
Guests enjoyed cocktails on the track overlooking the gym floor, which had been transformed into a western-style cafe with a bluegrass band and casual seating including high tops and couches to relax on. A variety of food stations provided dinner choices to please everyone. From parents of current students to recent and not-so-recent alumnae, guests agreed that the set-up lent to a more fun and festive atmosphere than a traditional sit-down dinner.
A special thank you to the hard work of the committee members - Julie Steinkrauss, Kitty McDonald, Elizabeth King, Tracey Finch, and Sandra Giordano - as well as all of our sponsors, auction item donors, and volunteers. Without them, this event would not happen!

2016 BRESCIA BALL: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5
Chairperson: Mary Keough P'16 '19
Event Coordinator: Tracey Finch P'19
Brescia Ball 2016, held at The Lantana in Randolph, honored Patricia Leary Dowling '52 and Mary Jo Gorman Keaney '82.
Patricia Leary Dowling '52 attended Ursuline when the school was still on Arlington Street in Boston, overlooking the Public Garden, and was in one of the first graduating classes of the Academy. She grew up in Milton, where her parents ran a dress shop, which may help explain why, to this day, Pat is always impeccably dressed. While at Ursuline, Pat received a blue ribbon at the end of every year for living and breathing Serviam. She graduated from Boston College, where she earned her teaching certificate. All these many years
later, Pat remains a loyal annual donor and supporter, serving on the campaign planning committee and the campaign cabinet. Then as now, she is the very model of Serviam.
Mary Jo Gorman Keaney '82 has devoted her life to education, and has the unique distinction of having served as the first lay principal of Ursuline Academy, from 2009 to 2015. Mary Jo received her degrees from Bowdoin College and Harvard Graduate School of Education. She taught and served in administrative roles at Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Harvard University, and St. Peter School in Cambridge, where she served as principal for four years. Mary Jo recalls that it was Sr. Ursula who introduced her to Latin at Ursuline, and also credits Sr. Dorothy Doyle (Latin) and Sr. Mercedes (Spanish) for nurturing her love of language. Her devotion to and support of Ursuline Academy has been unwavering in all her years as student, alumna, and administrator, and remains strong today.

Brescia Ball 2013: The Ursuline Academy Awards
"The Ursuline Academy Awards"
Saturday, November 23 - Lake Pearl Luciano's, Wrentham, MA
Dear Ursuline Community,
It is with deepest gratitude that I share this very good news with you: the 6th annual Brescia Ball, The Academy Awards, raised $110,000 for Ursuline Academy! By surpassing our goal as well as setting a new record, this year's event will allow us to make improvements to update and refresh our beloved Tea Room.
The success would not have been realized without the dedicated leadership demonstrated by our two Co-chairs, Angela Canale P '17 & '19 and Nancy McAdams P '15. I thank them along with the many other volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly to make the night a spectacular celebration of the mission of Ursuline Academy. The sense of community was demonstrated in so many ways: the students who assisted, the parents whose presence made the evening so special and the bidding so much fun, those who purchased raffle tickets but could not attend, the faculty and staff, as well as the Ursuline Sisters whose footsteps we follow as we continue the mission of St. Angela. We are blessed indeed to have so many who understand, embrace and live the motto Serviam each and every day.
Thank you so much for all that you do for this vibrant community. Without your continuous support, none of this would have been possible.
Gratefully,
Rosann Whiting
