Far from the gates of Ursuline Academy, two of our alumnae are living the motto of Serviam on a global level, in response to the international refugee crisis. While Rachel McCormack '70 and Nina Angeles '10 come from different generations of Ursuline education, they both have been lauded by their collegiate and greater communities for the work they are doing with refugee communities overseas. Read more to learn what Rachel and Nina are doing, and how their Ursuline education continues to inform the life projects of these two extraordinary UA alumnae. Read more.

Brescia  Ball Honors Two Ursuline Women

We were excited to honor two of our alumnae at this year's Brescia Ball on Saturday, November 5 at the Lantana in Randolph, MA. Patricia Leary Dowling '52 attended Ursuline when the school was still on Arlington Street in Boston, overlooking the Public Garden, and was in one of the first graduating classes of the Academy. All these years later, Pat remains a loyal annual donor and supporter, serving on the campaign planning committee and the campaign cabinet. Then as now, she is the very model of Serviam. Mary Jo Gorman Keaney '82 has devoted her life to education, and has the unique distinction of having served as the first lay principal of Ursuline Academy, from 2009 to 2015. Her devotion to and support of Ursuline Academy has been unwavering in all her years as student, alumna, and administrator, and remains strong today.

Our annual Brescia Ball celebrates the mission of Ursuline Academy by honoring individuals within the school community who exemplify Serviam in their daily lives.

Full Speed Ahead on Construction!
After breaking ground last spring on Ursuline Academy's new Athletic and Convocation Center, and making great progress over the summer, the building project hit a major milestone in October with a ceremonial beam topping ceremony. With the entire student body looking on, the four beams forming the cornice of the new building were raised into place, including one bearing the signatures of all current students and faculty and staff members. The 40,000 square foot structure will house new classrooms and an innovation lab, a regulation-size gymnasium, a fitness room, a student gathering space, and more. The building will overlook the academic building, the playing fields, and the Convent, in a symbolic gesture to the school's objective of helping students grow in mind, body and spirit. It is expected to be completed by the summer of 2017.

UA Seniors Attend Ursuline Leadership Conference

Over a period of five days this June, rising seniors Maggie Chipman, Student Body Vice President, and Lobna Youssef, Senior Class President, traveled to New York to participate in the Ursuline Educational Network Leadership Conference. After having the chance to meet and interact with other Ursuline students from around the country, Maggie reflected, "the opportunities to really discover what makes us first an Ursuline girl, then an Ursuline leader, and to discover similarity and sisterhood within otherwise strangers, are really unparalleled." Alumnae Notes: Class of 71 Mini-Reunion
The class of 1971 gathered for a mini-reunion at the home of classmate Judy Habib this past summer!  Judy is the founder of KHJ, a brand activation agency located in the Seaport district of Boston, recently named one of the top 100 women-owned businesses in Massachusetts by the Boston Globe and the Commonwealth Institute. It's great to see so many Ursuline hearts united together again. Please let us know of similar events that happen in our alumnae community!

Welcome Alumnae Director Susan Hehir
Ursuline is happy to introduce Susan Hehir as our new Director of Alumnae Relations. Susan joins Ursuline from Newton Country Day School where she served as Development Operations Manager, managing donor contributions to the Annual Fund that generated $1.4 million annually. Previously, she served as Special Projects Manager as a member of the Institutional Advancement team at Dean College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
