Midterm Exam Schedule
Mon. Jan. 22: Midterms for gr. 8-12, dismissal at 2 p.m., no school gr. 7
Tues. Jan. 23: Study day for all grades
Wed. Jan. 24: Midterms for all grades, dismissal at 2 p.m.
Thurs. Jan. 25: Study day for all grades
Fri. Jan. 26: Midterms for all grades, dismissal at 2 p.m.

College Planning Night for Junior Parents:

Lauren Duff, Senior Admissions Counselor at Stonehill College will give an overview of the application process from the college perspective. Dance Party Postponed
Please know that the 7th & 8th grade Dance Party -- scheduled to occur on January 5th -- was cancelled due to snow, but will be rescheduled for a later date.

 

8th Grade Class Trip to Philadelphia
If your child is intending to travel to Philadelphia with UA this spring, please have her bring to school this Monday the final payment of $300 (made to "Direct Travel")  that was due on January 4th.

 

Class Trip to Montreal
If your child is intending to travel to Montreal with UA this spring, please remember that the following items are due on or before January 22nd:

Direct Travel Parent Authorization Letter for Minors (notarized)
Copy of Child's Birth Certificate (notarized) OR valid US passport
Final Check for $386.50 (made to "Direct Travel)
*Please disregard the letter from Direct Travel, which was sent in error.


120 Nights - Senior Event 

"120 Nights" is a newly-established celebration of our seniors! The Class of 2018 is invited to enjoy an unprecedented event of entertainment and fun, beginning the night of Friday, February 2, and concluding the morning of Saturday, February 3.  This unique occasion is designed to allow our seniors to have fun, bond with one another, and cherish the remaining 120 nights left together before graduation!

Distractology

During the week of January 29 - February 2, Ursuline will be hosting "Distractology," a driving simulator developed by the Human Performance Lab at UMass -Amherst, and sponsored by Arbella Insurance Foundation. Distractology allows students to practice safe driving techniques and learn about how to avoid distractions in a virtual atmosphere. All UA students with a driver's permit, or who have had a driver's license for less than three years, are welcome to sit behind the wheel. Please encourage your young driver to sign up for a session through the Dean of Student Affairs Office.

Athletics

Track and Field News
UA Track and Field kept very busy in the days leading up to and after the holiday break.

  • On Dec. 18, the Ursuline Shot Put group had a banner evening, with Mackenzie Enos improving her lifetime best with a fantastic 33 feet, 3 inches, good for third place overall. Jessica Dow joined the list of lifetime bests with a best of 27 feet, 7 inches, good for 5th place overall, and Caroline McNally had significant improvement over last week sending the shot 26 feet, 10.5 inches. Maggie Droney registered her second lifetime best of the season.
  • At the Holiday Challenge Meet on Dec. 27, Jackie Hayes, Kelly Cheevers & Caitlin Lewis had lifetime best efforts in the 55 Dash; Jackie's effort qualified her to join Ashley Thomas in the 55 dash in the D5 post-season meet. Many other athletes contributed to a strong team effort at both meets.

UA Basketball to Host Maimondes School
on Sunday January 7

The Ursuline basketball program will be hosting Brookline's Maimonides School at our Reynolds Center gym on Sunday, Jan. 7 for three games. The Junior High game will be held at 12:30 p.m., Junior Varsity game at 2 p.m., and the Varsity game at 3:30 p.m. We hope to see many families come out to support our teams for these Sunday afternoon games. Complimentary refreshments will be available.

Catching Joy Service Event Tuesday January 9

Catching Joy will be hosting a service event with Catholic Memorial this Tuesday, January 9, after school. For those who signed up, please remember to bring in travel-sized toiletries with you, and meet in the Tea Room at 3:15 p.m.

Fore the Girls Golf Committee Meeting
Ursuline is looking for parents to join our 2018 Fore the Girls golf committee. Join the Advancement team at our kickoff meeting on Tuesday, January 9 at 7 p.m. at our 112 Lowder Street office. Fore the Girls is the second largest fundraiser for Ursuline Academy. If you're interested in participating or learning about ways you can get involved, contact Kat McCarron at kmccarron@ursulineacademy.net. This year's tournament is Tuesday, May 29 at the Blue Hill Country Club. More details to follow.

Parent Discussion at Westwood High School
"Vaping: What Parents Need to Know"

Westwood High School will be hosting a public discussion for parents on Thursday, January 9th, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the school auditorium featuring Dr. Michael Siegel, Dr. Richard Saitz and Dr. Emily Rothman, from the Boston University School of Public Health. Once a tool for helping cigarette smokers kick their habit, the vaporizer has quickly been adopted by teens. Come learn about "vaping" and its impact on adolescent health and how to prevent teens from adopting the habit.
