Dear Parents and Friends, Following in the footsteps of our foundress, St. Angela Merici, Ursuline Academy is dedicated to fostering a community committed to peacemaking in our homes, our communities and our world. We stand in solidarity, prayer and action with the young people of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, who have so courageously sought meaning in their grief by advocating for change regarding gun violence in the United States. This Wednesday, March 14th, has been designated as a nation-wide, student-led, walkout to draw attention to gun control and school safety. During Activity period on this day, the entire Ursuline Academy community will unite together for a prayer and action service organized by our Student Council to both honor the victims of Parkland and to seek safety in all schools. Students are invited to dress according to the following themes for each day: Monday, March 12: "Character Day" (Dress like your favorite character from a book, movie, or TV show, or even your favorite meme) Tuesday, March 13: "PJ Day" (Wear your pajamas to school) Wednesday, March 14: "America Day" (Put on your patriotic garb, or anything red, white, and blue) Thursday, March 15: "Color Day" - Students in each grade wear the following colors: gr. 7: green; gr. 8: pink; gr. 9: white; gr.10: grey; gr. 11: blue; gr. 12: black Friday, March 16: "Different Decade Day" (Put on your poodle skirt, break out your bell-bottoms, or don your disco dress for this day that celebrates the styles of the past.)

Our annual Father/Daughter Dance (originally scheduled for Friday, March 2nd) will take place this Friday evening, March 16th -- from 7-9 p.m., when we are looking forward to having fathers and daughters dance the night away! If you would like to contribute any snacks or water to the dance, please send them to the main office. Security ID Cards National Latin Exam The National Latin Exam will be given during first block on Tuesday, March 13. ALL Latin students will be taking the exam. Bears in Action Speech Team Results at Mardi Gras Tournament Congratulations to the Speech Team for achieving excellent results at last weekend's Mardi Gras Speech Tournament at Shrewsbury H.S. UA at Model UN Conference On March 3rd, Ursuline's Model UN team participated along other schools at Boston College High School's 26th annual conference. Topics debated included gender quality, the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, and the future of taxis. The UA Model UN team was very successful, with Kate Lauro earning Best Position Paper for her work in the NCAA and Eleanor O'Connell also winning Best Position Paper in Vatican II. In addition, Rose Stefanidakis was voted as the recipient of the People's Choice Award in her committee, General Assembly 2. Athletics Spring Sports Tryouts Tryouts for spring sports will begin on Monday, March 19. Required paperwork, including documentation of a physical exam within the last 13 months, was due by March 9. The Annual Faculty/Staff vs. Students Basketball Game will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 3:15 p.m. in the Reynolds Center gym as part of UA's Spirit Week activities. Come out and see Ms. Erin Cummins, Mrs. Ann Scott, Mrs. Stephanie Williams, Mr. Paul Bimmler, Mr. Drew Thorn, Mr. Greg Mertz, Mrs. Heather Smart, Mr. Mike Noyes, Mr. Alec Ward, Ms. Katie McNally, Mr. Mike O'Connor, Ms. Natalie Mayo and Mrs. Mary Ferrucci take on our student athletes with Mr. Dennis Hursey as referee! Informational Meetings for Spring Sports Spring Track: meeting for all students interested in Spring Track on Tuesday March 13, in the Reynolds Center during activity period. Lacrosse: meeting for all students interested in Lacrosse on Wednesday, March 14, in the Reynolds Center at 3 p.m. Specific information will be given out about tryout times and locations. Golf: meeting for all parents and student golfers on Thursday, March 15, in the library at 5 p.m. You will have an opportunity to meet the new coaches as well as get an update on where the team will be golfing this year. On Thursday, March 15, the entire school community will celebrate "Mission Day" – an Ursuline Academy annual tradition! Homerooms have collaborated to turn our classrooms into spaces where students will enjoy service activities, fun games, and tasty treats. All proceeds raised will be contributed to support Ursuline Missions, as well as other charitable organizations supported by UA. Donations for the Top Hat Raffle are still needed!
