UA Speech Competes at Nationals
Congratulations to Ursuline Speech Team members Maddie Mullen '19 and Mary Kate McDonald '20 for competing in last weekend's NCFL (National Catholic Forensic League) tournament in Washington D.C. These students earned their bids to compete at Nationals during last month's State Competition and joined thousands of other students from around the country to compete in their Speech categories. Mary Kate McDonald made it to quarter-finals (top 24 out of nearly 400 competitors!) in Oral Interpretation. Congrats girls – and here's to an amazing and successful year of Speech for Ursuline!

Why Study Latin?

In the latest update to the Life on Lowder Street blog, Latin teacher Erin Cummins provides her insight on the question of why one should study a "dead" language:

At the beginning of the school year, I asked my intermediate and advanced level classes to consider their purpose in Latin class beyond getting an A. "You are the link," I told them, "between our world today and the world of yesterday. Caesar, Catullus, Vergil—their words will all be forgotten or reduced to caricature without your constant efforts to bring them to life. Read more here.

Middle School Track Qualifies for State Championship
At the final middle school track meet at Westwood on May 17, Emma Dooley '23, Natalie Moran '23, Brigid Ryan '23 and Sara Wheeler '22 qualified in their open events for the Middle School State Championship Meet at Clinton High School on Saturday. Whitney Caulfield competed as the fourth member of the 4 X 400 relay team.

UA Track State Championship Highlights
At the Division 4 State Championship last weekend, Ursuline finished in 13th place out of the approximately 50 teams that competed.  Highlights include the 2 mile events where Lauren Grela finished 2nd,  taking down the Ursuline 2 mile outdoor school record set by her sister Erin 3 years ago in this same meet.  Lauren's new lifetime is now 11:17.95. As the 7th runner across the line in a time of 12:20.19, Beth Annese also adds a D4 medal to her trophy case. The 8 points by Lauren and 2 by Beth made this Ursuline's best event of the day. Other medals during the meet went to Ashley Thomas (100), Caroline Afonso (Shot Put) and Siobhan O'Sullivan (Shot Put and Discus).

Sunny Skies for 26th Annual Fore the Girls

Over 100 friends and family members of Ursuline Academy played golf at the 26th Annual Fore the Girls Tournament this past Tuesday at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, under brilliant sun - a welcome change from some of the outings in years past.  All proceeds from the event will benefit the Ursuline athletic programs.  As part of the dinner program, seven Ursuline seniors were recognized for their commitments to an athletic program at their colleges next fall, and Ms. Jessica Stokes was honored as Coach of the Year by Athletic Director Mike O'Connor.  Thank you to all who helped plan and staff the event.  Student athletes who were recognized included:
