Bear Essentials this Summer

Look for additional information in the next edition of Bear Essentials on August 12. Along with the school web site, Bear Essentials serves as an important source of information about life at Ursuline Academy. We send Bear Essentials to the "primary email" that we have on file in the school office. To have it sent to an additional email, please send a note to the Director of Communications by replying to this email.

 From the Main Office

Technology Workshops for New Students

We have scheduled four Technology Orientation Workshops on August 15 and August 16 from 9-11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. to assist students in downloading e-texts, creating online accounts to access course resources, and network access. It is strongly recommended that new students attend one of these sessions and bring their iPads with them. Parents are more than welcome to stay but it is not required. All sessions will be in the library.

Please RSVP to support@ursulineacademy.net if your daughter will be attending a tech workshop.

Portal Access, Summer School Work and Book Purchase Information

Portal access is now open to parents and students, along with summer school work and book purchase information. At this point, all students should have working emails, portal accounts, and their summer work and fall textbook requirements. If you have any outstanding questions about how to access this information, please email support@ursulineacademy.net with specific questions so that we may direct your request to the most appropriate team member. It is recommended that all books/resources be purchased by August 17 to ensure all materials have been processed and shipped prior to the start of school.

Senior Yearbook Photo Appointments

Seniors should have received a postcard to schedule their yearbook photo sitting with O'Connor Studios on August 21 or 22. There will also be a make-up date in the fall, for those who cannot make it in August. The yearbook photo must be done through O'Connor; photos from other photographers will not be accepted. To make an appointment, visit www.oconnorstudio.com/seniors

Health Form Requirements

All new students and rising sophomores need an updated (dated within the past year) physical with immunizations on it in the health office by August 1. Any questions can be directed to UA Nurse Heather Smart at nurse@ursulineacademy.net.

September Parent Socials

All parents in grades 7-11 are invited to attend one of our social gatherings held in the Reynolds Family Athletic & Convocation Center as an opportunity to meet and mingle with the other parents from your daughter's grade. Look for an email invitation next week.

Grade 7 and 8 parents: Wednesday, September 5, 6-8 p.m.

Grade 9, 10 and 11 parents: Thursday, September 6, 6-8 p.m

(Note: The Senior Parent Reception will be held later this fall. Formal invitations will follow).

Transportation

Carpool to School

Ursuline Academy partners with Carpool to School to help facilitate transportation for UA students. Any of our parents who wish to start or join a carpool can connect online at Ursuline's exclusive carpool webpage. This site gives our community a safe, easy way to form or join a carpool. Parents must fill out a complete profile through the website in order to be accepted into the system. Profiles include whether you need morning or after school transportation, if you are available to drive, your car description, passenger seats available, and the name of your daughter.

Calling all Juniors and Seniors for Parking!

As stated in the Student/Parent Handbook, student drivers are assigned specific spaces in the lower lot. In order to receive a space, students must register their car with Ursuline, have a driver's license, and pay $75 for a parking permit. The student parking process will begin for seniors only on Monday, August 20th. Senior students will receive an email with a link to an online form. The parking process for any remaining spaces will begin for juniors on Wednesday, August 22nd when each junior student will also receive an email with a link to the online form. Spots will be granted on a first come, first serve basis after the form is submitted and students who receive a spot will be notified. A copy of the student's license will be made for office records upon receiving her parking permit. This means that a student cannot receive a permit until she has her driver's license. Due to space limitations, not every student driver will be granted a spot. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

Parent Class Representatives Needed for Grades 7 and 9
There are still opportunities available for parents of current 7th and 9th grade students to serve in our Class Parent program, to help build a stronger sense of community among Ursuline families within each grade. In addition to planning occasional social opportunities for parents and families, class parents help communicate the need for volunteers for various events during the academic year and act as liaisons with the administration and staff at the school. If you are interested in being a class parent for grade 7 or 9, please contact Mary-Ellen Gioioso in our Advancement Office at mgioioso@ursulineacademy.net.

Homecoming 2018

Our staff has been busy at work planning for another memorable Homecoming for current families and alumnae. Join us on Saturday, September 22 for athletic events, a barbeque, and family games and activities, followed by a community Mass. Look for your postcard invitation in the coming weeks and more information about volunteering to help in the next edition of Bear Essentials.
