June 5, 2020 From the President and Principal Each year, Ursuline Academy honors students at an Academic Awards Ceremony. Although these awards are in a different format this year, we offer our most sincere congratulations to our students and faculty for the excellence they have achieved. Earlier today, we shared a video presentation of the awards given by the faculty to our students. We invite you to watch it here.
In the weeks ahead, we ask that all families keep their eyes out for frequent communication from us as we clarify plans for the upcoming school year. We sincerely hope that you all have a safe and healthy summer. Throughout the past three months, we have been, and continue to be, so very proud of our students and faculty. Wishing each of you a healthy and happy summer!
Statement on Racial Justice This week, Kate Levesque emailed a letter to the community affirming the Ursuline mission to treat each other with respect and compassion, and standing in support of each member of our school community and beyond, regardless of race. You can read the full text of the letter here.
Updates and Announcements Please Help Ursuline to Finish Strong During the past two months, the Ursuline community has shown what it is made of - teachers who are there for students, and students who are there for one another. We are now calling on the support of the entire Ursuline community in the face of unexpected challenges and increased requests for financial aid. An "All In for Ursuline" campaign has begun and will continue throughout the month of June as our fiscal year comes to a close. Please consider a gift to Ursuline Academy if your situation permits. Or, consider issuing a challenge to other parents in your daughter's class.Click here to see the progress toward our goal, to make a challenge, and to donate. Summer Assignments and Announcements Now that the school year is over, our weekly Bear Essentials will be transitioning to email updates from the administration. Please watch your email, as these updates will be more frequent than usual this summer. Summer assignments and supply lists will be shared shortly so that students may access them for work and purchase materials they need for next year's courses. The on-line bookstore, Follett, will open in July, and all families will be notified when books can be purchased there. Virtual Summer Course in Executive Function Skills Ursuline's School Counseling Department has shared information about a virtual course to aid with executive functioning skills. "Executive Function Intensive: Managing Materials, Time and Information" is an 8-week virtual course for incoming 6th through 12th graders that focuses on teaching students executive function skills such as time management, note-taking, and test taking. Its goal is to help students feel prepared and empowered when returning to school in the fall, whether it be distance learning or back on campus. See full description here or email efintensive@gmail.com with questions. Fall Athletics As the school year comes to an end, we are preparing for the fall athletic season. If you plan on participating in a fall sport, please make sure your paperwork is in no later than August 7. As of today, tryouts are scheduled to begin the week of August 24, with Impact Testing taking place the first two days. There will be more information coming out on Impact Testing in the near future. The schedules for specific sport tryout times will depend on direction from the Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. End of Year Drive-Through Parade Thanks to everyone who participated in Ursuline Academy's drive-through parade on campus last Friday. Nearly all of the faculty, staff, and administration lined the sidewalks around the school with bells, pompoms, handmade signs, and facemasks to wish students well during summer vacation, while hundreds of students and parents drove slowly past the line of cheering teachers with decorated vehicles and signs for the school and faculty. Congrats to the Abucewicz family who won the prize for the best school spirit in a vehicle. And congrats to Mrs. Pam Schnatterly and Mrs. Diana Jud, who shared the prize for best school spirit by a faculty or staff member. Quick Links |
