Community Voices: A Message from our Director of Mission
Dear Ursuline Families,
As the last few days before Christmas are counted, our prayers increase in intensity for Christ to come into our lives. With Advent wreaths in classrooms, carols sung throughout hallways, morning and evening Advent prayer opportunities, and mission moments shared to reflect upon hope, peace, joy, and love, the Ursuline community has been encouraged during this prayerful time of waiting to know that Jesus, the Messiah, is near. This was most beautifully exemplified this week with the abundant generosity of the entire Ursuline community in the clothing of nearly seventy children for the winter in partnership with the Catholic Charities Yawkey Center in Boston. From homerooms to departments and individual faculty members, Ursuline worked together to ensure that no child would be cold or without gifts this Christmas season. What a beautiful demonstration of our communal faith in action!
As the focus of celebration shifts from busy classrooms and hallways to family homes, I encourage each of you to pray the 'O Antiphons' over the coming days to continue that spirit of Advent in your homes. Read during the final seven days of Advent, from December 17 through December 23, each of these unique 'O Antiphon' prayers calls upon the Lord with a different title, a beautiful image of the Messiah. These ancient prayers date back from the eighth century and highlight the fulfillment of God's promise to us. Each prayer for the day begins:
O Wisdom, O Lord, O Root of Jesse, O Key of David, O Rising Sun,
O King of the Nations, O Emmanuel, God with Us
Consider taking a few moments over the busy days ahead to quietly reflect upon each prophetic title. Let them speak to you, and become a part of your joyful family Advent tradition.
May our loving God bring each of you health and happiness until we are gathered together again in the new year as a community. Blessings for a Merry Christmas!

Student Voices: A Memorial for Henrietta Lacks
"Since the Lacks family finally got honored for the HeLa cells, I wanted to celebrate this long-deserved recognition in my AP Lang class. It just so happened that we were reading the book around the anniversary of Henrietta Lacks' death, so I felt it was the perfect time to have a memorial to commemorate her, honor her legacy, and give her the praise and acknowledgment that she deserved." This week, Campus Ministry successfully delivered bags of Christmas gifts for 66 children who are clients of the Yawkey Center, a Catholic Charities Center, in Dorchester. The Clothe-a-Child project has been an annual event at Ursuline Academy for decades. Homerooms, faculty, and staff all contributed gifts and spent Tuesday morning wrapping and packaging the items for individual children. On behalf of Campus Ministry and the Yawkey Center, thank you for your help and generosity this holiday season.
Year of Serviam: How do YOU serve?
As part of our 75th Anniversary efforts, we are taking the opportunity to recommit to the Ursuline value of Serviam. We are calling this effort the "Year of Serviam," and it is quite simple. We invite all members of our community - students, parents, alumnae, and parents of alumnae - to tell us about the organizations that you support in your daily lives, whether it is a food bank, your local parish or place of worship, or another cause. Our goal is to serve 75 different organizations by May 14, 2022, which will be celebrated as International Serviam Day by Ursuline schools across the country. Please use this brief form to tell us about organizations with whom you currently volunteer, recently volunteered, or plan to volunteer, wherever they may be.
Senior Retreat registration is open!
Senior Retreat will be held at St. Thecla's in Billerica January 21-23, 2022. Parents must return the two physical forms to the Campus Ministry office. Payment is available via the portal.
