Community Voices: A Message from School and College Counseling |
Dear Ursuline Families, My morning usually starts by walking through the front doors of UA and greeting the seniors who have sleepily gathered to start their day with blankets, munchkins, and $4000.00 worth of coffee :) I ask "how many?" and they, not so sleepy anymore, announce, "14,13…..days left of classes." It makes me smile, and I think we can all relate to wanting our last days of high school to come to an end. But, before they graduate, we must remember that "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." Regardless of when the seniors began at UA, their time here has shaped them forever. Teachers, coaches, admin, support staff, classes, teams, plays, liturgies, clubs, service, extracurriculars, home-to-school partnership, and COVID…all these experiences taught them resilience and independence. As of today, the Class of 2022 has submitted 849 total applications to 202 different colleges or universities, including colleges in England, Ireland and Canada. We congratulate them on their acceptances! While the majority of seniors applied "undecided," we also had some specific majors in the areas of architecture, aeronautical engineering, marine biology, animal behavior, neuroscience, international relations, PT, OT, nursing, and business. Mrs. Scott and I were honored to work with the seniors on their college process. The college admissions landscape is difficult to navigate and we are proud of the work the seniors did to achieve their goals. There is an exciting and bright future ahead for them and they are ready to fly! While you may be aware of the 650 word essay that must be written for all college applications, there are also "supplemental essays" for some of the colleges. I want to share with you some examples of these "supplemental questions" to further compliment the Class of 2022 on their creativity, humor, and diligence! (Maybe they can be a source of family discussion this weekend?!) - 250 word limit: What's your favorite word and why? Describe one of your quirks and why it is a part of who you are?
- 75 word limit: List the titles of required readings from academic courses that you enjoyed most during high school. List the titles of books, essays, poetry, short stories, or plays that you read OUTSIDE of academic courses that you enjoyed the most in high school.
- 50 word limit: What if the moon were made of cheese? Or Neptune made of soap? Pick a celestial object, reimagine its material composition, and explore the implications. Feel free to explore the realm of physics, philosophy, fantasy…the sky's the limit! What's so easy about pie? Marvel or DC? Coke or Pepsi? Instagram or Tik Tok? What's your favorite this or that? and which side do you choose? What's your favorite way to eat a potato? What historical moment or event do you wish you could have witnessed?
- 25 word limit: One family tradition I cherish... This I believe… The quality I admire most in myself… I wish… My favorite book is… In 5 years, I…. One thing I would change is….
All hail to the Class of 2022! Our kudos, love, congrats, and best wishes to the Class of 2022, |

Spring Sports The spring sports season has begun. Today our varsity softball team hosts Norfolk Agricultural School. The junior varsity game was postponed due to a wet field. Please check the school website for your daughter's team game schedule. On the days of questionable weather, decisions are usually made by 1 p.m. Also, this coming week, there will be parent meetings with the coaches. Your daughter will inform you of the day and time. This is a great opportunity to meet the coaches.
Note: Fall Sports 2022 Even though it is a long time away, the fall sports tryouts are scheduled to take place the week of August 22nd in case you are planning summer vacations. The full details of the schedule will be posted in late May. |

Tia Stanton '22 Given Hobey Baker Award Congrats to Tia Stanton '22, a member of our hockey team, who was nominated and selected as a Hobey Baker Award recipient for her character, excellence, love for the game, and her sportsmanship. As the award states, success in life, much like success in hockey, demands more than skill alone. It demands a positive attitude, an excellent work ethic, and a will to succeed, no matter the circumstances. This is the first time an Ursuline player has been honored with this award. |

Students Raise Funds for Ukraine Relief Ursuline students stepped up this week to aid the Ursuline Sisters of the Polish Province who are working to provide humanitarian relief to the Ukrainian people. The Student Council and Crochet Club collaborated to make and sell Ukrainian flag pins and scarves that raised over $800 that will go directly to the Ursuline Sisters. This effort follows our faculty bake sale on March 11, and our Day of Giving on March 16, after which Ursuline sent over $3,000 to the Ursulines in Poland. |
