Ursuline Hearts Unite

The Varsity Basketball Team embarked on an exciting trip to Ursuline Academy in Saint Louis, Missouri to participate in the annual basketball Sisters Tournament.

This past week, the Ursuline Varsity Basketball Team embarked on an exciting trip to Ursuline Academy in Saint Louis, Missouri, to participate in the annual Sisters Tournament. This cherished tradition brings together Ursuline schools nationwide, including teams from St. Louis, Dallas, and our Ursuline Academy in Dedham. The tournament, consisting of six competitive games, provides an opportunity for Ursuline schools to not only showcase their athletic skills but display their idea of Serviam—“I Will Serve”—inspired by the legacy of St. Angela Merici, the foundress of the Ursulines.

The four-day trip included basketball, team bonding, and, most importantly, a celebration of sisterhood. Ursuline-Dedham and Ursuline-Dallas had the opportunity to shadow the St. Louis students during their school day. They were invited to participate in St. Louis’ “bubble dance,” an annual St. Louis semi-formal dance, and a chance for the girls to connect with peers beyond the basketball court.

Varsity Captain Sofia Pichay ’26 reflected on her experience at the Sisterhood Tournament and how it was not just basketball that brought the teams together, but sisterhood. “The Sisters Tournament was an opportunity for us to bond as a team and come closer together. It was so much fun to experience life at a peer school  that emphasizes the importance of sisterhood and our motto, Serviam. The trip to St. Louis was filled with many laughs and memories that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives,” Pichay shared.

Spanning 1,820 miles of travel combined, all three schools could return to their hometowns with a sense of sisterhood and lifelong memories. The Sisters Tournament is a shining example of the connections that encapsulate each school in the Ursuline Community, regardless of the distance that separates us. This cherished tradition continues to bring members of the Ursuline community together and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood. And by keeping this tradition alive, the connections made between schools remain a source of excitement for future generations ofUrsuline students,  reflecting the commitment to Serviam and the unbreakable bond of sisterhood that defines the spirit of Ursuline, regardless of where you are or which school you attend.
