Transfer of Sponsorship Ceremony

Nicole Daaboul ’25 reflects on the historical Transfer of Sponsorship from the Ursuline sisters to the lay leaders of the UEF.

The transfer of the sponsorship from the Ursuline Sisters to lay leaders within the Ursuline Education Foundation (UEF) is rich with symbolism and significance. The ceremony marked the transition of responsibility and support from one entity to another, signifying trust, continuity, and commitment to shared goals. The ceremony in itself was a powerful moment of unity and reaffirmation of values. Moreover, the transfer of sponsorship ceremony highlighted the importance of collaboration and the seamless passing of the torch to ensure ongoing success. It serves as a reminder that while individual contributions are vital, the strength of a community or organization lies in its ability to adapt and evolve through shared leadership and mutual support.

I was immensely grateful to have been a part of the Feast of Saint Ursula Sponsorship Transfer Ceremony. I had the honor of holding a large candle and lighting the smaller candles of the inductees as they approached the altar/ambo area. It was a privilege to be entrusted with this task. Not only did I feel deeply involved in the ceremony, but I also took the time to better understand and reflect on its significance. Although it was a simple task, it required a serious and reverent approach to ensure the utmost respect.

The students at Ursuline Academy in Dedham felt incredibly grateful to be a part of this historic day not only for our school in Dedham but for all Ursuline schools across the nation. We became the first Ursuline school in the United States to transition sponsorship from the Ursuline Sisters to lay leaders within the Ursuline Education Foundation. Not only did we get to watch the transfer of the Sponsorship ceremony and celebrate the Feast of St. Ursula, the mass was concluded with students, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees participating in the signing of the Code of Conduct. The code of conduct symbolizes the privilege and responsibility of continuing the legacy of an Ursuline education.
