A Week To Remember

Student council reflects on this year’s vibrant and festive Spirit Week!

As the month of March arrived, we reflected on one of our favorite Ursuline traditions: Spirit Week! The days and weeks following February break have the tendency to feel longer, but Spirit Week, one of our favorite Ursuline traditions, excites us all as it draws near. In preparation, our Student Council considered past themes, in addition to new ones inspired by other schools. This year, our themes were: Country versus Country Club Day, Salad Dressing Day, Grill Dad versus Soccer Mom Day, New Jersey Shore versus Sports Jerseys Day, and Class Colors & Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament Day. The majority of these themes were quite different from past years, but Class Color Day, which collectively celebrates all grades, will always remain. For Class Color Day, we added the rock, paper, scissors tournament as seen on TikTok in order to keep the excitement going. This tournament was an all-day ordeal; friends and teachers challenged one another to games of rock, paper, scissors in the hallways until Emersyn Smart ‘28 was crowned the winner of the school-wide competition!

As the week progressed, we had the privilege of doing an Instagram takeover where we highlighted the best of the best outfits each day of the week to showcase the fun Ursuline offers, and to recognize the creativity of our students. Students often aim to use clothes and props from around the house and only buy a few things from the annual Party City run. Planning outfits the night before is especially enjoyable if you’re proud of what you’ll wear the next day. Plus, Spirit Week gives students a break from the typical UA uniform. At the end of the week, Student Council sent out a survey for Spirit Week feedback which is important as it will help us find the perfect themes for the coming years. This year, Spirit Week was a reset for us as it marked the beginning of our fourth quarter, reminding us that we will soon say goodbye to the seniors, and sophomore year will come to a close. As we look back on the outfits we have whipped up in the past years, we recognize that this year will become another special Ursuline memory.
